We’ve been working on potty training Nora Beth for the past week, and I have to say (knock on all wooden or wood-like surfaces) that it’s going great. I thought we would go for the hard 48-72 hour training marathon, but instead, with our schedules, we’ve worked on it for a few hours a day, and she’s really getting the hang of it. Our girl is treat and praise-motivated, which surely helps this venture. Anytime she sits down on the potty for more than a few seconds, she gets up and yells, “YAAAAY!!! You did it!! We so proud you, NorBeff! We so happy!! Tweet? Up on counter?” only about 40% of this praise breaks actually reveal anything in the toilet, but I appreciate that she’s understanding the process.
My goal is to have her out of diapers by the time girlfriend 2.0 makes her appearance in January (they will be almost exactly 25 months apart… in fact, birthday and due date are precisely 25 months apart), but if we still have the overnight diapers to worry about, that’s fine by me. At any rate, “NorBeff” is thrilled with her panties, so I’m calling it a win overall.
Not a win? Baby 2 name game. We shared that her middle name will be Emory, and I’m so thankful for the stories and meaning behind that name. A few weeks ago we also narrowed down our short list of first names and bequeathed her with one. We shared it with a few close friends and family, told Nora Beth, and we all started to refer to her by that name. Buttttttt. Something didn’t feel 100% right about it. I tried to ignore my nagging hesitations as just a matter of not knowing her yet, buttttt. But it still didn’t sit exactly where I wanted it to. As we were falling asleep on Saturday night I asked David if he still loved it. His pause told me everything I needed to know. He had been having doubts about it too. So we’re back to the drawing board on names. It’s a little disappointing because I LOVE the name we had chosen. It had actually been my favorite girl name with Nora Beth but didn’t fit her either. But I also don’t want to feel like I’m settling on a moniker for this precious miracle. We can’t wait to know what her name is actually going to be.
And taking a sharp right turn, here’s a look at what’s on our meal plan this week!
Greek Burrito Bowls – I fixed these last night for dinner for my mom and myself, and we both loved them.
Chicken Tinga Tacos – not positive we’ll get to these this week, but I already had everything on hand, so why not?
Navy Bean, Bacon and Spinach Soup – I wasn’t a bean soup fan until the last couple of years… actually until my mom brought over some killer bean soup on our second night at home with Nora Beth, which inevitably led to a ton of newborn gas and an unhappy night, but it wasn’t enough to kill my love for it. Giving this one a shot this week because bacon.
Shrimp Scampi Tacos with Caesar Salad Slaw – another recipe where I had everything already stocked except the romaine. We have a bag of frozen shrimp languishing in our freezer, so this should do the trick.
Frozen Ravioli Lasagna – Because some times you just have to hit the easiest easy button you can find.
